About Us

The Ron Wilson Center is a private non-profit agency in the Monmouth, Oregon area founded in 1974 by a group of parents, students and concerned citizens. The corporation was named after Ron Wilson, a student athlete at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, who was killed in a construction accident. He was very active and showed personal interest in the support and training of people with disabilities. His passion for the development of individual growth and self-worth inspired the RWC program. The Ron Wilson Center is the oldest agency of this type in Polk County and is a leader and innovator in providing services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The agency currently serve about 65 individuals in a variety of programs that include Residential (24-hour staffed care), Supported Living, and Day Support Activities

We take pride in honoring the rights of the individuals we serve, such as personal choice, having a bedroom to one's self, transportation to and from work and/or recreation, promoting self-advocacy, and participation in a variety of community activities.  At the heart of Ron Wilson Center’s mission, is the belief that people with developmental challenges deserve the same opportunities to lead a life as every other citizen does. Supporting a person as they work to develop their own autonomy and independence can be challenging work, but our person-centered values guide our teams as we work with each individual.

Our Mission:

"Enhancing The Personal Life of The Individuals We Support"

Services

The Ron Wilson Center supports people with intellectual/ developmental disabilities by providing Residential, Supported Living and Day Support Activities (DSA) Programs. All of our programs and training are focused on increasing the quality of life of the individuals we serve. Each person's supports are tailored to their individual needs using the Oregon Individual Support Planning system (ISP).

24-Hour Residential

The Ron Wilson Center has over a dozen 24-hour residences in Monmouth. Each residence is the home of 3-5 individuals. The individuals we serve receive staff assistance that is designed to meet each individual’s particular needs. Some programs are focused on supporting aging concerns, while other focus on teaching and demonstrating both positive behavior supports and life skills with young adults.

The ultimate goal is to help the people we support to become as independent as possible, recognizing that independence looks different for everyone. RWC residents are a significant part of their local community and are encouraged to participate within their own preferred way. No matter what the age and/or disability, RWC encourages all individuals to advocate for themselves while providing continuous training opportunities.

Supported Living

The goal of Supported Living is to assist individuals with I/DD to live in their own homes, within the community. Residents in this program usually live in their own apartments or with a roommate and receive intermittent support by trained staff that provide assistance in budgeting, meal planning, and accessing community and medical services.

Day Support Activities

The RWC DSA program provides a place for individuals who are not working or have retired. The DSA program offers a variety of skill building opportunities by promoting community inclusion, engaging with others, and building relationships.
